Lessons Learned

                                                                             Part 1- Audience and Genre

The genre of a project or text impacts how I organize my paper I n many ways. First of all if I am not interested in the topic, I don’t see any point in doing the paper. The genre helps me organize my paper, because if the genre is interests me, I am able to put forth my best effort because I can relate.  I appeal to my audience in different ways, depending on what the subject I am writing is. I need to be in the situation to be able to determine.  I like to be right though, so if anything, logos would be a mandatory strategy for me to use to be that. Statistics and facts are as an important thing to bring up when arguing or making a point. The synthesis paper to me was the most difficult paper to write.  Having to be able to differentiate authors Ideas and contributing your own idea is not an easy task. You also have to be persuasive. a synthesis paper is not a paper you can write overnight, you have to put in some work. I must say I did enjoy myself writing this paper. I like it mainly because I like challenges, especially when I conquer them like I did this paper. I never tried to break any of the genre’s rules.  If I did, it was minor. There are so many components and rules not meant to be broke, which made it challenging to write. For example the objective summary I could not give my own opinion which hurt because I had a lot to say. It all paid off; because now I know different strategies I can apply to my future classes.

Part 2- Community and Writing Process

The prewriting process is an effective process to me. It helped me a lot when it came time to writing papers on my own. It is helpful because all the prewriting activities add up to being the big paper. The class discussions were the most advantageous to me because everything we talked about in class helped me write better papers, because I knew what was expected of me. The drafts helped a lot. At first I felt as if it was pointless but because of previous English classes I was aware that it would benefit at the end. The revisions I made within my paper were based on peer reviews or teacher reviews. I followed what I was told and accepted the mistakes I made to better my paper. As a member of a writing community, I was able to help my fellow classmates in their revision process by first being honest, being as descriptive as possible when telling them what to revise, and giving my opinion about what can better their paper.  I had a lot of friends in the class, and not that I lie to them, but revising their paper and telling them what to do is not so easy. I know how I am when I see a lot of mistakes on my papers, I get frustrated. Aiding my peers helped my paper because unfortunately when I write my papers, I don’t go back and read it to make sure it free of mistakes. The mistakes in some of my peers’ papers happened to be in some of my papers. So from then on every time I wrote a paper, before submitting, I read it and made sure it is up to par. In the larger community I see myself being a good writer. I shall take the tools I acquired from 102, 103, and blend it with 104 and there is no reason I cannot be a great writer.

                                                                      Part 3- Strengths and Weaknesses

My strength in writing I would say is elaborating. Honestly this was not a trait about my writing that has been around for a while. I acquired this attribute from English 103 and ran with it. I used this trait effectively when it came to writing papers that involved length. My writing has become better because in this class I learned how to be open minded, which generated more ideas and details when it came to writing my paper. I also became a more critical thinker which I learned from this class. The synthesis paper is one of the things that helped me become a better thinker and writer. I had to do multiple things effectively with restrictions to make one paper. Some of the things I had to do in the synthesis paper was discriminate different authors idea’s and tell how they were persuading their audience, also compare and contrast the ideas, and also find a way to include my thoughts successfully to make the paper be well balanced and written. Some ways I struggled in writing was learning how not to use so much of my personal experience in my writing and stating facts, while not using too many details. I have improved on this and believe I am better at it with the help of the diverse activities we did in class.
